1/48 Academy MiG-29A (With aftermarket parts)

Post by vivkulan on Sun Feb 12, 2012 4:14 pm

Hello All,
Started the 1/48 Academy MiG-29A kit a week ago.
Planning to build it in IAF scheme if I can get a hold of the decal or I will build it in Russian scheme. Planning to use the righ nose and nozzle resin parts (Bought it from ebay for $7.50) and if possible Aires cockpit , Engine intake and exhaust covers with the ladder photo etch parts too.
Started the build by washing the parts in warm soap water to get rid of mold separator oil by scrubbing with a tooth brush. I use dawn dish washer , because it helps to cut through grease. Next seperated the main fuselage parts with a nipper. Used 400 sand paper to make the sprue attached area smooth. Used a micro tip pencil to mark the panel line (Which is recessed in this case). Then used Dymo tape used for label making as a guide to scribe the panel lines. I used the steel scriber and sewing needle chucked in a pin vise to do the job. I scribe very light first and go several passes , to go further deeper. Use a old toothbrush the clean the plastic shavings from the channel and sand very lightly with a sanding stick (600 grit). Will upload pics soon of this progress......
Regards
Vivek

Hi Vivek,
Great start. Keep the build pics coming.
Thanks for sharing. I have never built a plane. Hoping to get a kit and start. I always wanted to build models with Indian markings. Never managed to get a reference pic with enough details. So always ended with Russian markings Mad
